Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation

Banding of oesophageal varices can be performed for patients with oesophageal variceal bleeding or varices at risk of bleeding, particularly in patients with portal hypertension and chronic liver disease.

Endoscopic Clipping

Endoscopic clips can be used to control bleeding from selected gastrointestinal lesions and to close or treat appropriately selected mucosal defects.

Oesophageal Stenting

Oesophageal stents can be placed in selected patients with oesophageal obstruction or other appropriate indications, including certain oesophageal malignancies and selected leaks or perforations.

Argon Plasma Coagulation

Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) is a non-contact endoscopic treatment that can be used to control bleeding or treat selected superficial gastrointestinal lesions.
It may be useful in appropriately selected conditions such as vascular lesions and other superficial bleeding lesions. 

Endoscopic Polyp Removal

Selected polyps and mucosal lesions can be removed endoscopically using appropriate techniques.
This allows treatment and tissue diagnosis while avoiding conventional surgery in appropriately selected patients. 

Foreign Body Removal

Our unit provides endoscopic removal of foreign bodies from the upper gastrointestinal tract when appropriate.
Prompt evaluation is particularly important when a foreign body is impacted in the oesophagus or when there is a risk of obstruction, injury or perforation. 

Oesophageal Dilatation

Endoscopic oesophageal dilatation can be performed for selected patients with narrowing or strictures of the oesophagus.
It may be used for appropriately diagnosed conditions causing:
• Difficulty swallowing
• Oesophageal narrowing
• Benign strictures
• Selected post-treatment or postoperative strictures
The procedure aims to restore the oesophageal lumen and improve swallowing.

Upper GI endoscopy allows direct visualisation of the:

It is commonly performed to evaluate:
• Difficulty swallowing
• Persistent upper abdominal symptoms
• Recurrent vomiting
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• Unexplained anaemia
• Heartburn and reflux-related symptoms
• Suspected ulcers
• Suspected gastrointestinal lesions

During the procedure, biopsies can be obtained from suspicious or abnormal areas for further evaluation.
